The National Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Contemporary Art share a building in Parque Forestal de Santiago. Founded in 1880 as the Museo Nacional de Pinturas, the museum has undergone architectural changes over time. The current building, designed by Émile Jéquier and inaugurated in 1910, houses Chilean art collections from colonial times to the present day. In 1974, a wing of the building was transferred to the Museum of Contemporary Art. Both museums were reconnected in 2015. On December 30, 1976, the National Museum of Fine Arts building was declared a National Monument.
