The Cousiño Palace, a historical icon of Chile, was built in 1882 by Luis Cousiño on land acquired in the mid-1800s. After successive transfers, in 1940 it became the property of the Municipality of Santiago. In 1977 it became a museum and in 1981 it was declared a National Monument. Designed by the French architect Paul Lathoud in the Neoclassical style, it consists of three buildings, highlighting its large main building with two floors and 27 rooms. The decoration fuses French, Italian and Moorish elements, with valuable paintings and marble. After a restoration due to the 2010 earthquake, the Cousiño Palace offers an enriching cultural experience, with exhibitions and an underground wine cellar converted into an art gallery.
