The Municipality of Santiago is located in front of the city's Plaza de Armas, at the corner of Monjitas with Paseo 21 de Mayo. In the past, it functioned as the Cabildo and the Public Jail. The current building was built in 1790 by the architect Joaquín Toesca in neoclassical style. It has a façade with arches, a balcony and the city's coat of arms. In 1811, transformations were carried out without altering the façade. Since 1895, it has functioned as the exclusive headquarters of the Municipality of Santiago and was declared a National Monument in 1976.
